Researching and choosing a program

Admissions
Your application for the program you choose must fulfill all the admission requirements and be submitted on time. You must also submit any other documents required for your application within the relevant deadlines. All of this information will be provided to you by the institution you hope to attend.

Permit and visa: CAQ and study permit
Once you have been accepted and your registration has been confirmed at your chosen institution, you will apply for a Québec Acceptance Certificate (CAQ) for studies. The CAQ is mandatory for any program of study over six months. For more information, and to submit an application, visit the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Francisation et de l’Intégration website.
Once you have received your CAQ, you will apply for a study permit, which is required for any program of study over six months. This permit is issued by the the Government of Canada and the application can be completed online.
If you plan to come to Canada as a couple, it is possible to apply for an open work permit for your spouse or common-law partner.

Arrival: Settling in and exploring the city
To start out on the right foot in Quebec, we recommend planning your budget in advance and finding an apartment or student residence. Many institutions in Québec City offer student housing. You should also be sure to have all the documents you need at hand and to make an appointment with your resource person at your institution. A warm welcome awaits you!

For the first days of class, make sure you have made contact with resource people to ensure you’ve understood your schedule, the way your classes will be taught and how you’ll submit your work, and how to structure your studies and fulfill the requirements of your program.
